Frequently asked questions

Do I need lab equipment?

No. The whole point is that your kitchen already is a lab. A kitchen scale, an oven thermometer, and a whisk will cover almost every experiment on the site.

Are the recipes original?

They are curated world recipes rather than invented ones. Each entry lists search keywords and alternate names so you can use any version of the recipe you like.

How do I find a recipe if I only know its other name?

Every recipe page lists its alternate names and keywords, and the search covers them too. If you know the dish by any of its common names, you will land on the right page.

What is Bake Mode vs Chem Mode?

Bake Mode shows each recipe as a normal, friendly recipe you can follow at home. Chem Mode shows the same recipe annotated with the lab technique and chemistry behind each step, so you can see the experiment inside the bake.

Can I use this for a chemistry class or club?

Absolutely. The glossary was designed so each technique maps to a real research field, which makes it a ready-made hands-on supplement for a class, club, or science fair project.

Can I request a recipe or technique?

Yes, please do. Use the contact form above: pick "Recipe request" or "Chemistry question" as your topic and tell me what you would like to see in the lab.

Still curious? Head to the technique glossary or browse the recipe index.
