How it works in the lab
In a real lab, nearly every experiment begins at an analytical balance measuring to 0.0001 g, because mass is the most reliable way to count atoms and molecules. Chemists prepare standard solutions by weighing a precise mass of solute and dissolving it in a volumetric flask, which is calibrated to hold an exact volume at a marked line. This matters because every later calculation, from concentration to yield, is only as good as those first measurements.

How it shows up in baking
