Pre-Conditioning a Vessel
Preparing a container (e.g., blind-baking a shell) before adding the reactive material.
How it works in the lab
Labs precondition vessels before use: glassware is rinsed with the reaction solvent so residual water does not quench a moisture-sensitive reaction, passivated with acid for trace metal work, or chilled so a temperature-sensitive sample does not shock on contact. Ovens and autoclaves are preheated to temperature before samples go in, because adding a sample changes the thermal load. Skipping preconditioning introduces uncontrolled variables at the very first step.
